Types of Quantifiers

Quantifiers for Countable Nouns

These are used with nouns that can be counted

  • Many

There are many apples in the basket.

I have a few friends in this school.


  • Several

Quantifiers for Uncountable Nouns

These are used with nouns that cannot be counted

  • Much

There isn’t much water left in the bottle.

Quantifiers for Both Countable and Uncountable Nouns

These can be used with both types of nouns

  • All

All students must submit their assignments.

  • Enough

We have enough chairs for everyone.


There is enough food for everyone.

Common Mistakes


Using “many” with Uncountable Nouns

Incorrect —-> How many milk do you want?

Correct —-> How much milk do you want?


Using “much” with Countable Nouns

Incorrect —-> I have much friends.

Correct —-> I have many friends.


Incorrect Use of “Some” and “Any”

Incorrect —-> Do you have some questions?

Correct —-> Do you have any questions?


Using “A Little” with Countable Nouns

Incorrect —-> I have a little chairs in the room.

Correct —-> I have a few chairs in the room.
